Hi there. when I enter my service tag I get a list of drivers but on the drop down list of operating systems it only lists XP & Vista. I have Windows 7. When I hover over this it says " Only Operating Systems that have been validated on your product will be available."
My windows 7 is genuine & validated. Why is it not listed?
Dell inspiron 530 Desktop.
If Dell didn't sell the system with Win 7 or (Win 😎 and they haven't 'validated" this model to work correctly with Win 7, they won't offer any drivers for Win 7. That doesn't mean the system won't work with 7 (or 😎 but you'll have to hunt around for drivers. Vista drivers may work, but that's not guaranteed.
Did you just install Win 7 and need drivers to make it work, or is it already running with Win 7 and drivers, but you're looking for driver updates?
EDIT: And search these forums to see if anyone has listed drivers for the 530 that work with Win 7. emoticon.Wink.title

Thanks. Updated chipset from intel site. Not managed BIOS yet though. Where would I find how to do this?
I know it can be risk & done it before on an old Compaq.
Yes the Inspiron 530 works fine with Windows 7 64 bit and the BIOS update will run within Windows.
Save it to desktop and close all programs, right click the BIOS update and select run as administrator.
Ironically on the Dell ftp website there are some Windows 7 drivers listed under "historical drivers". Anyway try installing the following in order:
Ethernet (Connect to internet after installation of the driver)
Realtek Variant B http://ftp.dell.com/network/Realtek_RTL81XX-PCI-E-Networ_A01_R301326.exe
Chipset (Windows 7 will likely contain some version of the chipset drivers but the update utility will tell you if theres an update, it will also give you the integrated video driver if you don't have a video card)
Video (If you have a dedicated card you should know if you have an ATI or nVidea card, if not run both or check the hardware IDs)
Communications (Driver will be present in Windows 7, other categories are optional)
Conexant D850 Driver http://ftp.dell.com/comm/Conexant_D850-56K-V-9X-PCI-D_A00_R223419.exe
Conexant D850 Utility http://ftp.dell.com/comm/R139937.exe
Conexant D850 Application http://ftp.dell.com/comm/CONEXANT_MULTI-DEVICE_A09_R204990.exe
Conexant D850 Diagnostics Utility http://ftp.dell.com/comm/Conexant_multi-device_A05_R177997.exe
Drivers taken from the Inspiron 570 if D850 Driver fails to install you don't have a modem (they are obsolete and so should ignore the rest of the ones listed under Communications)
Audio (likely you just have the Realtek one, if you have a dedicated soundcard again check the hardware ids and get the latest driver from Creative)
Realtek ALC888 HD Audio http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER91041M/4/R243215.exe
TV Tuner (optional - not all systems had the card reader)
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1200, v.1.46.28154, A10 http://ftp.dell.com/video/R274774.exe
Card Reader (optional - not all systems had the card reader)
To check the hardware IDs have a look at page 45-46 of my Windows Reinstallation Guide:
Also let us know if you have any other optional components such as a wireless card.
Hi. Thanks for all the help. I downloaded sisoftwaresandra to double check all is ok.
I haven't updated my BIOS as it seems to be up to date with BIOS 1.0.18 ?? The software is however telling me;
"Tip T1101 - Video BIOS (firmware) update available. To update, visit the manufacturer's website".
Never heard of video BIOS before & Dell download manager won't allow me to check as Win 7 not validated on my system.
Dell inspiron 530 Desktop. Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.
You should not need to update the BIOS of your Video card.
Dell often had updates for Video BIOS but mainly for systems a good bit older than your Inspiron 530. Your current configuration should be fine to run Windows 7, did you perform the check in the device manager?
