Dell OS Recovery Tool unable to connect with Back-End

Hey there,

I tried to create a Win 7 USB based recovery tool, but it allways tells me, that there is no connection with the back-end possible. Are the servers at Dell down? Do I just have to wait or what should I do?

Similar problem trying to create USB recovery image for Dell Inspiron 15 (N5050).  May be the servers are down.

I'm getting the same issue putting in a service tag for my XPS 15.

It's possible to use Microsoft's media creation tool to get Windows 10 here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10

I'm trying this now, but I don't know if I'm going to run into problems that I wouldn't run into with the Dell version of the tool. I think that mainly the Dell version is the version of windows that came with your computer, while the one you'll get from Microsoft if the latest version. In either case, I think drivers will need to be installed separately, so I don't think the Dell version has any real advantages if what you ultimately want it is the latest version of Windows 10, but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure Dell will not let you download your OS Recovery if your PC is out of warranty.  If I enter a Service Tag that's out of warranty I get the "unable to connect" error.  However, if I enter a service tag of a PC that is still under warranty everything works fine.  Unfortunately you can't restore a system with a different service tag.  Dell doesn't state this explicitly but that's what it looks like to me.  Pretty  of Dell if that's the case.  Obviously has nothing to do with any servers being down.  I'll have to try a standard Windows 10 install from Microsoft.
