Dell PC Restore by Symantec

Jump to solution

I have a Latitude E6500 Running XP Pro.
I had to Replace the hard drive and lost the Restore Partition in the process
I would like to have the Restore Partition Back.
I would also like to add my own software selection to the Restore partition (might as well) so I don't have to deal with reinstalling everything...

I What Do I Do?
I Have the Original Disks that came with the Unit.

Thanks...

If you replaced the hard drive, you've lost the Dell PC Restore partiton forever. There is no getting it back. Even if you could get it back, you can't add anything to it.

The only thing you can do is use imaging software like Acronis, Ghost, or one of the various free/shareware utilties available on the net. Once you have everything loaded and the drive is free of malware, you can use the imaging software to make an exact copy of the entire hard drive that you store either on a DVD(s) or on an external hard drive.

These imaging apps typically allow you to create a bootable CD or DVD so you can restore the image to the hard drive whenever needed.

You can create an image now as a 'baseline', and new images as you install new Microsoft updates, additional software and create new personal files on the internal hard drive. That way, you don't have to go all the way back to day 1, if something happens. You install the latest image you made...

You had the magic card up your sleeve...you made PC Restore disappear when you replaced the hard drive!
