Dell Support Center

I just downloaded and tried to install the Dell Support Center software, "dell_support_center.msi". The installation fails with the following message, "The installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer package." I tried the installation in safe mode and that failed as well. Windows Explorer indicates that the installation file contains 0 bytes. Why would that be? Has anyone else been having similar problems installing this application? I8200 Win Xp SP2

It's causing problems for some, I would suggest that you leave it alone for now. I downloaded it and on one account(mine) it was only half functional and my wife's account it was more functional, but not 100% so I uninstalled it. IT JUST DIDN'T WORK AS IT SHOULD:smileymad:

The only thing I can say is that many are asking for removal instructions for Dell Support Center, just a heads up.

OK, thanks for the opinions. I'll leave it alone for now. I'm still curious why the installation file shows 0 bytes. Oh well, just one of THOSE things I guess.

Mine's a Dimension 9200, which I gather is just a re-badging of the XPS 410, on WinXP Pro SP2. I had an automated email from Dell (I'm in the UK) advising me about Dell Support Center, and when I followed the link provided I ended up with a file called R169697.EXE. I ran this file and it installed fine and runs OK, absolutely no problems.

I found R169697.EXE with a search of Dell and downloaded it. If I feel lucky today, maybe I'll try to install it. I think it's odd that Dell Support Center can be downloaded as two different installation files. It's also strange that Dell Support Center doesn't show up in the list of downloads for my particular computer in Drivers and Downloads. This is the sort of sloppy operating that causes me to lose confidence in a vendor.
