DeskTop Start-up

Somehow, my Start-up configuration has been changed.  When I start my computer and the boot-up process is complete my desktop has two open windows.  One called "Windows Messenger" and the other one is opened to a directory, C:\Windows\System32.  I have to close both to get back to a clean desktop with only Icons displayed.

How can I change my start-up configuration file to get it not to load the two extra windows.

Have you tried a System Restore to an earlier date when things were working well?  That is an option to try.
