DirectX 9 Driver support for ATI Mobility 9000?

Hi I've installed Vista Ultimate on my Latitude D600. ( Full blog report at http://iamacamera.org/default.aspx?section=develop/microsoft&id=82 ) I'm okay with the fact that my D600 will not show the Vista UI niceties, but now it appears that my machine will not even allow me to launch Windows Movie Maker. When I attempt to launch Windows Movie Maker under Vista, Vista displays a dialog that Windows Movie Maker requires a DirectX 9 - capable system and DirectX 9 Drivers. For now, I have to run Windows XP under Virtual PC in order to gain access to the XP version of Windows Movie Maker. My D600 has the ATI Mobility 9000 graphics chip. So my questions are: * does the ATI Mobility 9000 chip meet DirectX 9 requirements ? * will ATI/AMD issue DirectX 9 drivers for the D600 ? Thanks for your time spent researching this.

Hi

Did you run the Vista upgrade advisor prior to the Vista install ?  Did you check for Vista drivers for all you hardware prior to the upgrade ?

A Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:

  • A modern processor (at least 800MHz¹).

  • 512 MB of system memory.

  • A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.

Windows Vista Premium Ready PCs
Some Windows Vista Capable PCs have been designated Premium Ready. These PCs will provide an even better Windows Vista experience, including the Windows Aero user experience. Features available in specific premium editions of Windows Vista, such as the ability to watch and record live TV, may require additional hardware.

A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:

  • 1 GB of system memory.

  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)², Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.

  • 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.

  • DVD-ROM Drive³.

Hello Vince,

Thank you for your informative, yet disturbingly boilerplate response.

This is the Dell Forum, right? Can anyone tell me if my Latitude D600 with ATI Mobility 9000 supports DirectX 9? If so, can I expect drivers anytime soon? That's all I'm asking...

Mobility™ Radeon™ 9000 is the first visual processor to fully support DirectX® 8.1 programmable pixel and vertex shaders on a mobile platform.

Just fyi, tHere are vista drivers for the following chipsets:

X1950, X1900, X1800, X1650, X1600, X1550, X1300, X1050, X850, X800, X700, X600, X550, X300, 9800, 9700, 9600, 9500

The mobile chipsets corresponding to any of the above should work for vista, but YMMV on getting a signed working driver from ATI.

sigh ... my poor dx7 card in my i5100 doesn't have a chance
