Factory Restore of my Dell XPS 15 L502X

Hi Guys,

I own a Dell XPS 15, i am facing a issue.I installed Ubuntu on my system but unfortunately it erased off Windows 7.I have windows disk, booting from the disk ,i tried to access the recovery partition but not able to access it. I used a partition recovery to access the contents of the recovery partition and successfully got the contents(.wim and other files are there). But dont know how to use the wim files to restore my lap to factory state.I went through some articles and tried using Imagex.

"imagex /apply d:\dell\image\factory.wim 1 c:\"

But this isnt working for me. It throws an error as,

"The supported subsystem is not suppored".

Give me some suggestions to do a factory reset of my laptop.

Thanks in Advance!!

Once you change the partitioning on the hard drive, the recovery partition is useless. You will need the windows 7 dell disk to reinstall. You cannot access or copy the partition directly. It is encrypted and copying altering or moving breaks the encryption.

Follow Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/

This will instruct you in downloading Windows 7 installation media as well as OS updates and installing drivers in the correct order. It will also instruct you in installation of Dell Backup and Recovery which will create a new "factory image" of the clean install.

When playing around with Ubuntu I recommend using VMWare player:

http://www.vmware.com/products/player

This allows for installation of Ubuntu as an application within Windows (virtual machine) and does not mess up system partitions.
