Failed PC Restore for Windows XP--help!

My PC was a mess of spyware, and not able to start Windows correctly, so I decided to do a system restore.  I followed all the directions here:  http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?docid=181316, except for backing up my files, as I was unable to access them, and had them backed up on a portable drive.

I did the ctrl + F11, and followed the steps.  At the end, after I clicked "finish", I was given 2 "press any key" to agree to Dell user agreements.  Did so, then the PC and monitor went into "powersave" mode.  When I manually shut off the PC and restart, I get the Dell, then the blue stripe at the top, then the Windows screen, and then ka-bam, powersave.

I just want my desktop back, so I can stop using this old laptop!  Help please!
