I can't reinstall my OS from the Dell Reinstallation CD on a reformatted HD

Has anybody had this sort of problem? My computer is an Optiplex SX280. It is the original HD but it has been reformatted.

Thanks

We need more info.

What version of Windows?

Are you getting an error message? Exactly what does it say?

Is the install not starting, stalling or...?

If you run BIOS setup, is the Drive Controller setting set to Nomral or Compatible? If it's set to Normal are you loading the SATA drivers from a floppy disk when offered the option during the Windows installation? Otherwise, you have to change it to Compatible.

Windows XP I boot with the DELL Reinstallation CD and there are no problems until I am at about 50% into the copying files to disk. It tells me that it can't read the file and it is usually but not always the same file. I have used different DELL reinstallation CD's and I am having the same sort of problem  The drive controller is set to "compatible".

Thanks for your time!

A problem like that can occur if you have any peripherals connected, aside from mouse, monitor and keyboard. Especially if it's an HP printer... And power off and disconnect the ethernet (or phone) cord too.

What the name of the file causing the problems?
