Inspiron 1525 blank screen

My Inspiron 1525 starts to boot up but goes blank during the BIOS screen.  I can hear the laptop continue to boot up.  If I close the laptop cover for about ten minutes, I can open the cover to see about 4 seconds of the log-on  screen, and then the screen goes blank again.  I haven't added any new programs or anything else.  Does anyone know what happened and how I can fix this?
