Internet Explorer 7 Upgrade

Currently running IE 6 in XP Home SP2.  Before I download and install IE 7 I want to check on the proper way in which to install it.

1)  Does IE 6 have to be removed first?

2) Suggestions on how to upgrade from IE 6 to IE 7.

3) Is there any thing that I need to be cautioned about in doing this or IE 7 ?

4) Any comments about IE7 ?????

Thanks...........

Of course, shut down all other programs before you start this install.

You do not need to remove IE6 before installing IE7. Just follow the on screen prompts and there should be no problems.

Just install IE7. Note: IE 6 is NOT removed by the IE7 installation, so if you decide you don't want IE7 you just uninstall it using control panel and IE6 will be back ready to use.

I did a short search on IE 7 and see that some folks have had issues with it, like certain websites taking a longer time to load than it did with IE 6.....

The initial loading of the program takes a second or two longer but once it is running, it is noticeably faster than IE6.

I have IE 7 but it conflicts with my HP Director--won't work--I am afraid to uninstall IE7 because I don't find IE6 anyplace on the computer.  I thought it wiped it out when I installed the 7.--I'm afraid if I uninstall IE7 I won't have ANYthing.  I'm not real good at the tech part of the computer as you can tell.

Ellie,

The install of IE 7 creates a backup folder that contains the IE 6 files. When you uninstall IE 7, it automatically reinstalls those files, so your IE is as it was before you installed IE7.
The folder is C:\Windows\IE7. It is a compressed folder (shows in blue if you have the default setup).

Thanks for the info, puts my mind at ease.  I'm thinking that is the route I may have to go as HP told me IE7 isn't compatible with my HP Director software. Long story so thanks for your help.

. . "Thank you, Maybe it works for some people, but not me lol. My printer is less than 2 years old too" . .

If you only have a printer, you don't really need the HP Director software . . You are able to print?

Agreed, in order to install or print to a device, all you need is the driver.  No other software is necessary,

Sorry if I misled you or you misunderstood.   I should have called it what it is----All-In-One.  It's the HP PSC 2355. Printer, copier, scanner.  I do need the software.  Everything works but the Director.  I wonder if it's wise just to uninstall EI7 and go back to 6.  HP says no.  Any thoughts.

Hi again,
This is what is making me scream lol.  HP gave me that workaround too but HOW do I get HP Director software OPEN when I click on it and NOTHING comes up, it's BLANK.  That is my problem.  Does this make sense to you?  They told me to uninstall my software and download and install software from the internet---the 5610 series.  I suppose I'm making you confused huh? Sorry. I guess like you say----tough it out till they fix it.  Thanks so much for your responses.
