Internet Explorer 7 Upgrade

Currently running IE 6 in XP Home SP2.  Before I download and install IE 7 I want to check on the proper way in which to install it.

1)  Does IE 6 have to be removed first?

2) Suggestions on how to upgrade from IE 6 to IE 7.

3) Is there any thing that I need to be cautioned about in doing this or IE 7 ?

4) Any comments about IE7 ?????

Thanks...........

Re: Internet Explorer 7 Upgrade

You do not need to remove IE6 before installing IE7. Just follow the on screen prompts and there should be no problems.

Re: Internet Explorer 7 Upgrade

Of course, shut down all other programs before you start this install.

Re: Internet Explorer 7 Upgrade

Just install IE7. Note: IE 6 is NOT removed by the IE7 installation, so if you decide you don't want IE7 you just uninstall it using control panel and IE6 will be back ready to use.

Re: Internet Explorer 7 Upgrade

I did a short search on IE 7 and see that some folks have had issues with it, like certain websites taking a longer time to load than it did with IE 6.....

Re: Internet Explorer 7 Upgrade

The initial loading of the program takes a second or two longer but once it is running, it is noticeably faster than IE6.

Re: Internet Explorer 7 Upgrade

I have IE 7 but it conflicts with my HP Director--won't work--I am afraid to uninstall IE7 because I don't find IE6 anyplace on the computer.  I thought it wiped it out when I installed the 7.--I'm afraid if I uninstall IE7 I won't have ANYthing.  I'm not real good at the tech part of the computer as you can tell.

Re: Internet Explorer 7 Upgrade

Ellie,

The install of IE 7 creates a backup folder that contains the IE 6 files. When you uninstall IE 7, it automatically reinstalls those files, so your IE is as it was before you installed IE7.
The folder is C:\Windows\IE7. It is a compressed folder (shows in blue if you have the default setup).
