Is Dell's Backup and Recovery stopping Windows' Backup and Restore from working?
On my advice, many of my clients have in the last few months being buying new Dells to replace their old XP desktops and laptops.
They have them delivered to me (I've four here right now) and I set them up nicely, install all key apps (Flash, Firefox and a whole bunch more), get them totally up to date (Windows and apps) and move over data from the old machines, then clear out temp files and defrag and optimise the hard disks.
I've had no real issues with these machines (all with either an i3 or i5 processor) except one.
Windows' Backup and Restore fails to work in two key ways - it can't create a System Repair disc or, more importantly, create an image backup to an external hard disk.
The inability to create a System Repair disc is an irritant, nothing more - I now just burn one on one of my own PCs.
But not being able to use Windows' own tool to create a complete image is a major pain. I have to create a complete system image by booting from an Acronis optical or (sometimes and more slowly) using a Macrium boot optical.
I'd thought it might be a bug with Dell's Backup and Recovery, so tried (on a number of machines) to see if updating to the latest version (1.6.2.4) would fix the problem but it didn't.
On one machine I even completely uninstalled Dell's Backup and Recovery but that didn't make any difference either.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how I can get Windows' Backup and Restore working on these new Dell machines (which are still coming through my door at a rate of 3-5 a week)?
Any suggestions, thoughts (known fixes?) massively appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation.
