Is VDMDBD.DLL a module in XP? How to replace?
Today I have twice received an error message in Windows XP (Dimension 2350) that "VDMDBD.DLL was not found". I deleted a couple of programs and may also have deleted this .DLL file. Can anyone tell me if this .DLL program is part of the Windows XP operating system? Hint: Do a 'Search Desktop' for *.dll and click on 'Everything'. See if this .DLL file shows up among the other .dll files. If VDMDBD.DLL is indeed part of Windows XP, how can I restore it? I've already tried 'Help & Support' ->'Restore System' and the message I get is that it can't restore anything because nothing has been changed (which leads me to believe that perhaps VDMDBD.DLL is not part of XP). What can you tell me? Thanks.

salsantos222,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum
Try searching the dll cache. Type dllcache in the run
box. It should find it and replace it.

http://support.microsoft.com/dllhelp/?dlltype=file&l=55&alpha=VDMDBD.DLL&S=1&x=15&y=9
shows that vdmdbd.dll is not a Microsoft dll I don't have it on my XP pro SP3 system.
Are you sure you have given us the correct file name? Or shgould it be vdmdbg.dll? that is an XP file.

Thanks for helping me out, Jesse L. I found the .dll file under \I386 after JRosenfeld also sent me a suggestion. Turns out I did not erase this .dll by accident. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for your help, JRosenfeld. First off, I did make a mistake in labeling the .dll file. The correct file name is VDMDBG.DLL. After I looked up information using the Microsoft address you sent me, I learned that this .dll file resides in the \I386 directory. I searched my computer under \I386 and indeed found the VDMDBG.DLL file. Turns out I did not accidentally erase this .dll file. Thanks so much. I can't understand why a video-play conked out twice because it couldn't find this .dll file. From you I also learned about the Microsoft help site. Thank you for that, too.

The copy in the \I386 folder is a spare (as are all the files in that folder). You should check that the working copy is in C\Windows\System32. You may need to go to control panel, folder options, view tab, check show hidden files and folders, uncheck hide file extensions of known type (to see the .dll part) and uncheck hide protected system operating files (click yes or OK on any warning message). Also, if using search, under more advanced options check the first 3 boxes.
If the file is not in the \system32 folder copy it from the \I386 folder to the \system32 folder.

Thanks, JRosenfeld, for taking the time to write out the detailed help. I followed your instructions and found the VDMDBG.DLL file under \Windows\System 32 as well as the \I386 backup folder. Turns out I had not accidentally deleted this .dll file earlier in the day when I deleted some files. The problem was in the video I downloaded. I feel much better. Wish I could repay your help and kindness other than with a simple and sincere 'thank you'. My problem is solved, but I don't know how to label this forum thread as 'solved'.
