Just upgraded my XPS 420 to Win 7 64 - But where are the drivers?

As I stated in the subject of my post, I finally rid myself of that headache known as Vista and migrated to Windows 7 64 bit. The bluetooth keyboard and mouse bundle works (obviously) on this XPS 420, however, that's about it. Although I was concerned about the the connectivity prioir to installing Win 7, I found that wasn't the problem. Actually, the mouse in particular is barely functional. It points, but that's about it. Not cutting and pasting - no nothing. So I searched and searched for the drivers for my keyboard/mouse bundle and all I located were Vista 64 bit drivers that were not compatible with Win 7. I went to Logitech.com, the manufacturer of these devices, but had no luck there as well. So, does anyone have a suggestion as to where I can find drivers for my XPS 420?

Mouse = UN733

Keyboard = M/N: Y-RAQ-DEL2

Thank you in advance!

Try these here, I pulled together the driver set not too long ago:

If the native Windows drivers do not work properly, try running Windows Update (enable "other" updates) to see if a newer driver exists from Microsoft.  If that doesn't work, you can't install the Vista drivers (even in compatibility mode), and Logitech does not support them on Windows 7 either, then your best bet would be to get a new mouse/keyboard.  I would try going to Intel.com and running their automatic tool to discover and update drivers ... perhaps the chipset is simply not handling the device properly.

i have been using the downloaded program called driver tool. i believe i found it on the dell site. or i found it on microsoft site..it works very well. even updated my chipset driver. it will search web for the best driver or use generic if you choose too. it has a knowledge base to check for your driver errors i looked and it had windows 7 upgrade driver errors to dig deeper to find...hope this helps a little...(driver tool)

I'm not aware of any "Driver Tool" made by either Dell or Microsoft (Dell has a Driver Reset Tool, but that is different than you describe) ... do you have the link you used?  I am very untrusting of "driver tools", because in most cases, they use generic drivers (even if it is an "exact" one it says it found on the Internet) which do not always work (or do not fully/correctly support features of device) and are hard to completely uninstall if they cause a problem.  Many "driver tools" and many generic drivers "found on the Internet" are "value-added" programs, loading any number of pieces of malware on your system along with the driver that is purported to work.  I doubt that any "driver tool" you got from Microsoft or Dell would be that careless as to scour the Internet for a driver that will work.

I'm also untrusting of such programs/websites.

McAfee Siteadvisor says the site is okay: http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/xpdrivers.com

But WOT doesn't rate it so high: http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/xpdrivers.com

I will assume your system has Malware so recommend scanning it with Malwarebytes' Antimalware:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

For the Mouse and Keyboard try these from Logitech:

Thanks for all the replies. During my search for updated drivers and firm ware updates, my machine became horribly infected by all sorts of malware. You see my problem is that I bought my machine (XPS 420) with Vista 32 bit installed. The drivers and firmware updates provided by Dell are al listed as being for a machine whose OS is Vista. Well, now I am running Windows 7 64 bit, and after my last experience, I want to update my pc using a trusted source. Any ideas?

Natakuc4, Wow, thank you for link. I am curious to know what the Windows 7 64 bit drivers are not available when I run Dell's auto detect? All that I see are Vista drivers, which may work, but I am not going to try and find out if they do. Anyway, I will give this a shot and report the results. Thanks Again! UMRK

As promised, I am providing an updated on my progress of updating my XPS 420. Since there are probably more than a few people who have changed their OS from Vista to Windows 7, I will provide a few specs on my machine as it may prove helpful to those who read this in the future. XPS 420 BIOS AO7 (Shame Dell won't update anymore) Intel Core 2 Duo E66850 @ 3 GHz 8 G DDR3 Ram Win 7 64 Bit OS on Samsung SSD HD 120 G Old HD now secondary, holding all data GeForce 880GT DVD RW TSST TS-H493B DVD/CD RW TS-H653B Using the link provided, I was able to update my pc's Intel chipset, audio, NIC/ethernet, modem and media card reader. The graphic card updates were easy to find on my own. I was not able to find any updates, firm ware or otherwise, for my optical drives. Finally, the helpful utility that provided a report on the battery life of my blue tooth mouse and keyboard were deleted when I originally installed Win 7. So, while I am still missing a few things on my wish list, I am much better off using the link provided above by NATAKUC4. So, if anyone comes across any of the updates I am still missing, please post link here or let me know. Other than that, my pc seems to be running much better.

These are drivers mainly taken from other Dell systems which have the same hardware components or direct from vendors such as Intel, AMD, NVIDIA.

Dell do not list them as compatible for the OS although they will be.

I do not recommend upgraded the firmware of optical drives, I have experienced a firmware update which stopped my drive from reading DVDs in an older system. Optical Drives will perform natively with Windows 7.

Regarding the Bluetooth utility can you provide any details about your keyboard and mouse? The Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse are usually non-standard. I think what you have is essentially a Logitech keyboard and mouse bundle, so you may try getting the latest version of SetPoint direct from Logitech which will be Windows 7 compatible:

Edit sorry its an old thread seen this on the top page. Try the latest setpoint installer anyway.

natakuc4 , While my mouse has the Logitech logo imprinted on it, the keyboard has Dell all over it. IN fact, the word Dell is imprinted on the keyboard face. Do you still think that the Logitech bundle will be useful? TIA, Umrk

Also try Logitech Wireless Desktop Keyboard & Mouse Application R220849.zip:

http://ftp.dell.com/input/R220849.zip

Logitech Bluetooth Travel Mouse Application:

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER53274M/1/R241392.zip

These are taken from later systems but might support your hardware also.

natakuc4 , Final update from me: The link to the Logitech set point you posted works perfectly with my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. So, should anyone attempt a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit on an XPS 420, these posts will be valuable. Thank you! UMRK
