Latitude D420 Wireless on Vista

Hi Everyone

I have a weird issue here....

I was running Vista RC1 fine on my D420, Wireless worked like a charm...a few disconnnects but nothing major.

Since upgrading to RTM and A02 BIOS Upgrade, I can connect to the Wireless Network using the built in wireless and sometimes I get a "Duplicate IP" (I am the only system on the wireless" and remain connected but no IP address is issued to the system.

I tried a third party 3Com card, same issue...

Is it a Vista issue or a something else

Any insight would be appreciated

Cheers

Stuart

Hi Stuart

Just another questions: do you have a broadband modem installed in your D420?

I have a Vodafone and wanted to ask you, if you know if there is a driver for the modem for Vista.

Thanks for answer in advance!

I have the Sierra Wireless 580 for Telus that I have yet to install because it did not work on RC1

So haven't tried it yet

Here is the fix...friend of mine shared it with me who is a Vista MVP

reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters /v ArpRetryCount /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Reboot when completed

Hi!

I've installed Vista 32-bit Ultimate and ALL hardware was recognized, incl. the UMTS-card from Vodafone. So I didn't make the reg-key change above.

Hope this helps anybody else.

Hi!

I've read about a hack so that the UMTS/3G-modem could be used with any SIM-card and not only with, e.g. the Vodafone one.

Does anybody know the hack?

Wow....it works

for all those with this issue on  a d420, run the reg add command given above from a command prompt. Then bounce the notebook, and voila!!!!

nice one!

Dell & Microsoft please take note of this issue & fix!!!
