Moving XPS T450 (98SE) HDD to Dim4400 (XP)

I want to move the WD 13G HDD from my XPS T450 to my Dimension 4400 without losing any of the files. Of course, I'll be changing it from a primary master to a primary slave. Is this possible? If so, how do I do that?

No problem. The jumper should already be set to cable select, so simply plug the drive from your old machine into the middle connector on the IDE cable of your 4400, then boot to system setup (F2) and turn the primary slave on. When Windows starts, it will automatically recognize the drive and assign it the next available letter. Use Explorer to view the drive contents.

Thanks for your response. I ran into a problem when I tried to do what you suggested. Windows did not assign a letter to the drive so that although the drive shows up in Computer Manager it does not appear in My Computer, etc.

The next thing I tried was putting the HDD into an external USB drive enclosure. This gave me the same result - no drive letter assigned!
