Dimension 9200 / XPS 410  DXP061 with Core 2 Duo E6300 can go all the way to windows 10 pro.  Yes the XPS 410 will accept and fully use all 8 GB of RAM when running a 64 bit O/S. I currently have 8GB.

So if you upgrade to a modest Radeon HD 6450 from asus. You are good to go.

Works in all models Except USFF because USFF has no video slot.

Won't hurt your power supply or your wallet.

Home version of windows 7 8 10 is $109

Pro version is $199

Oem versions Slightly less.

Keep in mind that you can get an older OptiPlex like a GX620 or better 745,755, 760, 780 WITH Windows 7 for $100 .

Used Insipiron 3847 towers are Less than $400.

My 3847 with 16 gigs DDR3 ram is quite a bit faster than an XPS 410.

So you should update the BIOS to 2.5.3 before proceeding with any hardware/software changes. You can get the latest BIOS update here:

http://downloads.dell.com/published/pages/xps-410.html

A new Windows license is probably not worthwhile for that computer however. You could take the unofficial 10130 upgrade path. This path is a bit complicated and it also looks like the 10130 .iso has bene removed.

I personally would advise getting a new system opposed to paying for a Windows license and graphics card for a 9 year old system.

Please give details about your computer. Press [Windows] and [ r ] and type in msinfo32 then press [Enter]. From this screen tell us the model, manufacturer (assumed Dell), BIOS revision, installed physical memory (RAM) and processor. See here for more details:

As you mentioned Windows Vista is obsolete. However you can take the unofficial Windows 10130 Upgrade path to make your system a Windows 10 Pro Device:

Windows Home and $40 card is $150.  That's less than a new computer.  And in the case of most people that ask me they would rather spend that much.  Windows 8 upgrades are less than $109 and have a free 10 upgrade until JULY 2016.
