News clips won't play

I read the news online a lot, but for some reason news clips and other media reports won't play on my computer. The player shows up but when I click play it just flashed kinda, then doesn't do anything. Thinking it has something to do with my settings somewhere? pop-up blocker? Anyone experienced this? How do I allow for this kind of media to play?
