No jumper cable for password change

I have an older Dell...an XPS 420 . Just got it back from my son, who passwords the boot page and now I can't get past it. I followed instructions, bit my comp does not have this jumper plug in it. No password jumper plug, no clearing the password. What do I do know? Can't seem to even find one for sale.
