Not recognizing OS?
My friend has a inspiron 300m and the registry got messed up and there is no way to do anything because it wont recognize the OS now. The other problem is there is no cd rom on it or I could solve it quick. It gives the system32 error and just says (default )windows doesnt even know its xp? Any answers or how do I reset to factory settings?

If there is the Dell Recovery Partition on the hard drive (and may not be on this model), CTRL/F11 will access the partition to restore to factory settings. If not, the only option is with discs.
If you are in the US, the OWNER can request a set of "backup" discs from Dell. There can be a nominal charge for the discs Click Me
If get the Windows XP disc, a Repair may fix this problem rather than having to do a complete reinstall.
