Problem Reports

In the Control Panel under Problem Reports>Problem History, there are numerous examples of "problems". 

Like "Internet Explorer not working (or not responding)"...18 times, and another one is for the Windows Driver Foundation (whatever that is) which says  "driver host process timeout " a total of 32 times. There are also two for "real downloader', and one each for the "network diagnostics framework" and "mdlresolversvc.exe

At one time last year there were  a good 300+ of these error messages on there, from various applications and processes, most of them unreported. Guess they drop off after a time.

Does anyone have suggestion about what causes these and how they can be mitigated. Otherwise, the computer seems to shrug them off and continues to operate.

There can be multiple things which make Internet Explorer not respond such as any third party toolbars and scripts which it doesn't like. Basically every time an application crashes you should get an error report and unfortunately Windows isn't completely robust so its normal for you to get a few of these in particular if you use your computer alot. mdlresolversvc.exe and Real Downloader is related to the RealPlayer.

It can be advisable to carry out some software maintenance using the likes of CCleaner and Defraggler aswell as Malwarebytes' Antimalware. See here for details:

I do those maintenance operations on a regular basis.

I think it's just Windows and its vagaries.
