It's been a few months since I got tired of Google's invasive updates and removed the toolbar but, if memory serves, I believe there was an option in a drop down list on the toolbar itself to uninstall.

At the Google Toolbar, left click on Google(the colored word Google), click on Help and then click on Uninstall.

Google Tool Bar used to be one of my favorite utilities.  But I ended up uninstalling it about a week ago because it kept updating itself and splattering unwanted "new features" (aka, garbage) all over.

Mine has been installed for months and I don't remember it ever updating on its own.  When was the last update released?  My version is 3.0.131.0

I have the same version (3.0.131.0 ) of Google Toolbar, and it has never caused any problems. But I obtained it directly from Google.

I rather suspect that the pre-installed Dell/Google software is a very different animal.

I suspect you are right the preinstalled one isn't the one to have. I will download from Google if I want to try it again. Thanks for all your suggestions and comments.

Mine wasn't the preinstalled one.  It was version 2.0.95, c.2003 and played nice until about a month ago, when it started updating itself.  I tried uninstalling/reinstalling a few times, but it kept updating itself, and there's no option to tell it to stop doing that.  Every time it would update it would add new buttons and move my IE toolbars around.  So I got rid of it.
