Trying to Restore to Factory Condition, Website Instructions Not Working
I own a Dell Inspiron 530 and am trying to return it to factory condition after getting a virus. I have already backed up everything I want to keep. When I got the computer it did not come with any install discs other than the Drivers disc. I have looked all over the web at different websites and forums, and none of the few ideas I found have helped.
Here's what happens, step by step: I press F8 when the computer first boots up to bring up the Advanced Boot Options. I select "Repair Your Computer". From here on my computer does not provide the options that the website states it should. After I select "Repair Your Computer", I don't get to select language or keyboard options. It goes straight to a log in screen. I try to type in "Administrator" and leave the password space blank, but it tells me the user account does not exist or cannot be contacted, and I cannot gain access to the system even with my own personal admin account. It says the system does not recognize the name I enter. I have restored my computer to factory settings before and it worked like a charm, but now its much more difficult than before and I don't understand what the problem is..
I'm at a loss for what to do next. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the recovery partition has been corrupted by the virus,if no disc you'll have to contact Dell and they will have to send you the operating disc, drivers and utility disc plus the application disc, same problem with my 531s serious but mine came with all the install disc.

You will have to do a manual clean install. If you don't have media you will have to request it. Alternatively use retail media and phone activation. See my wikies A Clean Install of Windows Vista/7 for best results.
