Vista 32-bit to 64-bit upgrade....DSN ID 158098

I just spent the last two hours talking to Dell Customer Service, Dell Sales, Dell Technical Support and even Dell Financial Services.  I have no idea why I was transferred to Dell Financial Services but it appeared like nobody at Dell has the slightest clue what DSN ID 158098 was.  In fact, I was told by the people who tried  to help me that they had no way of looing it up with their system.  Basically, I have better access to their policy than they do themselves lol.

Per my understanding, this policy clearly stipulates that customers can upgrade or downgrade to a similar version of Vista but the people I talk to were pretty convinced that I was trying to write new Dell policy here.  I'm based in the US so I was hoping that I was going to have a little more luck with this but I don't even know where to start looking for help.  I mean, the people I talked to didn't even know where to transfer me to judging by how many different specialists I ended up talking to.   Anyway, I'm keeping hope alive and praying that one of the resident Dell Desktop Liasons takes pity on me and decides to help me.  I haven't yet received my system (it shipped yesterday) so thankfully I still have some time.

I may give Dell another call when I have another hour or two to burn but I'm pretty exhausted right now and I thnk I may need a little more time before I take another crack at it.  If any of you community members have any helpul tips, it would be much appreciated.  Thanks and happy new year.

Jesse,

First off thank you for your help with all the Dell users on the forum.  I've messaged you regarding my own issues with Dell Customer Service, basically telling me that I was mistaken in thinking that I ordered a computer with 64bit premium, after recieving the 32bit Windows Premium installed.   I too would like the 64bit version, as I KNOW that I ordered the 64bit version, as I was already aware that the 64bit version would be required to make the most of the 4gb of memory.   If for some reason my message was not recieved, please email me instructions to recieve the proper Windows version.

Jesse,

As with just about everyone else on this particular forum, I too have been trying to get an upgrade on my Vista 32 bit to Vista 64 bit.  Unfortunately all the numbers I have called at Dell have got me nowhere.  And now I only have like 11 days left on my warranty :(  If you could please help me get a copy of the 64 bit Vista operating system so that I can upgrade my Vista Home Premium, it would be greatly apprec iated.  I am not too familiar with thses forums and do not know how to send a private message.....I tried to send you a freind request....do not know if I did it correctly or not, so I am trying this.....any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Out of warranty no they will not send you a disk so you would have to buy one.  For you next question Please start a new thread as this one is for the disk issue.

Hi.

I got the 64-bit Vista Home Premium DVD (p/n N069H) last Oct. I just find the disc is unreadable right after I opened the sealed DVD sleeve. I am out of my warranty. Is there any chance I can get a replacement?

Thanks.

Okay so i recieved my 64bit Vista disk, and I tried to install it.   Even when booting from the CD, when i click the install/setup file on the CD, it says that the 64bit file is not supported.

How do I install a different operating system on a Dell?   Before I knew I could upgrade I tried to "downgrade" to XP, but the laptop wouldn't even let me boot from it, or open it.  Is there some hardware *** that dell installs to forbid OS changes???

Hi Jesse,

Like all the others in this thread I’ve been trying to get the 64-bit Vista Ultimate CD but without any luck. Since I live in Canada, could you please let me know if I can get this upgrade? If not, any suggestions that you might have would be mostly appreciated.

Thank you,

Remus
