Vista DVD????

Hi Everyone, I just purchased an E1405 with Vista Home Premium and I'd like to know if there is any way I can get the Vista DVD. My last laptop was the 9300 and didnt come with the OS CD so I'm assuming this one wont either. Will dell send me the DVD if I request it? I did pay for the OS after all. Anyways any help that you guys/girls can offer is appreciated. -Huascar

New system coming with Vista, you will get the DVD disk.   In the resent past, Dell gave those a choice to either pay an additional $10.00 for the windows xp cd or the Symantec Restore Utility.  Many did not see the check off for the $10.00 XP cd choice, so Dell has been allowing those to get a Windows XP CD if they never got one.  Second link below tells you how to go about getting that XP cd.

Link above shows you how to use your Symantec Restore Program.  This is for those that got the Symantec Restore Utility on your system instead of a Windows XP OS CD.   You can also get Dell to send you the Windows XP CD by using the below link.  No, for the system that is older that came with the Symantec Restore, will Dell give you instead the Vista DVD disk.

I will be interested to see the response to this.

I specifically asked if I would receive the VISTA installation CDs when I purchased my new Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop (expecting delivery later today) and was told the disks would be supplied.

If they are not, I will be straight on to Dell to ask that they be sent to me immediately.

I want what I paid for!!!  And anyway, what am I supposed to do without them if I want to perform a clean reinstall/reformat?

Cheers,

I received my new Inspiron 6400 last week, and it came with the Discs.  So I wouldn't worry if I were you, it should come with it.

I belive if you call them up they will send it to you for somewhere from $10-30, I cant remember. remember, it is a OEM version so it can not be migrated and has limited hardware upgrade potentials if i remember right.

You can call them and let them know you didn't received the Vista DVD, and you need it because you want to do some updates, and it's requesting you. If you are under warranty you shouldn't have any problem.

Hi,

Well my system did come with a Vista CD from Dell - it wasn't a Microsoft branded/packaged CD, but a Dell branded one - apparently for use with my system only.

Anyway, I was able to run a VISTA reinstall last night (wanted to get shot of unnecessary software cluttering my system that Dell pre-installed) and have had no problems.

Cheers,

This all sounds good. I also want to do a clean install, cause truthfully from the last dell laptop I had there where to many extra apps that truthfully I would never use. As soon as I get the laptop I'll run a burn-in app and if all is well I'll wipe and do a clean install. Thanks everyone

I didn't get the Vista DVD on my new E521 system. That was the first thing i looked for. Anyways I contacted Dell and they put a request to send me one for free. He said that it should show up online in my account and it will show a price, but to ignore it.
