Why is “Owner” in this folder?

Okay, thanks to many forum reads and help from Bev I think I’ve got my XP Home up and running (after numerous stops and starts) from reinstallation CD.

I have created two profiles: “Surfer” and GraphicsWorker”

If I log into GraphicsWorker and go into My Computer I see three folders:

-         “Shared Documents”

-         “GraphicsWorker’s Documents”

-         “Surfers’s Documents”

If I log into “Surfer” – I get the same:

-         “Shared Documents”

-         “GraphicsWorker’s Documents”

-         “Surfers’s Documents”

But, if I go into: my computer\local C (master drive)\documents and settings\ … I see the following:

-         “All Users”

-         Default User (kind of “greyed out”)

-         “GraphicsWorker”

-         “Owner”

I fully expected “Owner" to be named “Surfer”??

When I go into “Owner” I do eventually see folders consistent with the content of my “Surfer” profile.

Should I be concerned?

I’m wondering if there is some sort of corruption from my re-installation of XP Home?

Everything seems to be working fine.

I just don’t seem to recall seeing “Owner” as part of my folder structure with the previous incarnation of XP (and my Surfer/GraphicsWorker profiles).

Is this a symptom of a problem in the future, or do you think I’m probably okay?

Thanks,

Will

AccidntlTouist,

Nothing to be concerned about on either issue.  "Owner" is the user folder that was set up when you initially installed your operating system.  Changing the user name to "Surfer" in Control Panel|User Accounts does not change the folder name.  I always set up my clients' computers with "Owner" as the default user.  It makes it a lot easier to simply change the user name when the current operator moves up or out of the organization.  Users like to see their name on the Desktop.  I've found they don't get offended when they see their user folder is actually listed as "Owner".  Some go ballistic if their user folder has the prior user's name.

Some program files are "locked" into specific physical locations on the hard drive during installation.  Those files cannot be defragmented.

Hope this information helps.

Tony
