Win 7 -- Control Panel not responding

Vostro 1720 with Windows 7

Every time I start Control Panel, it goes to "not responding" and I have to stop it through Task Manager.  It's a new computer that came with Win 7 preinstalled and has been doing this since we opened the box about two weeks ago.

I've searched the Microsoft Support sites to no avail.  Has anyone here seen this?

Same or similar here w/ 3 week old Inspiron 1440, win7,64bit. Seems to do it on first or second try to enter cp. Appearrs to be searching for cp items. Then stops.  Closes with the "X" at top of window. Then seems to work normally. Also happened fron day 1. All updates from dell and ms done.

Yes, new Inspiron 1545 with Win7 home premium

Pentium dual core T4300
4gb memory, 280 gb HD

I initially noticed it happening with Control Panel from the first day...I'd have to X to stop it and then go back in and sometimes that worked. I'm now noticing it happening with IE8, Chrome, and FF. Seems to just hang and then you're done no matter how long you wait

Searched for answers and they are all over the map, from resetting the battery to type of antivirus to reinstalling.

Just looked at a ton of sites on this and don't see a definitive answer yet...

I have this same issue. I have a Studio XPS 13 with Windows 7 64 bit.  I noticed the control panel freezing up when the computer came out of the box.  I am starting to think this an issue with this operating system, not the computer.

Ditto, Studio XPS 13, Windows 7 64 bit. Control Panel freezes first time, have to close using Task Manager then reopens and functions properly. No solutions? I'll put in a support ticket.

After 20 mins on the Dell Support site, I have concluded that it's not possible to submit a ticket. Kept being sent round in circles. This forum is my only hope ...

Same experience with brand new Studio 15. :emotion-6:  Doesn't hang every time but has done so a few times in 1 day of use.

I found this post http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19287843/19529825.aspx#19529825 on a problem with dell wireless utility control panel extension, and then found an update for the driver which includes an update in the utility to version A01 (vs A00 shipped).  Will report back on any difference in behaviour

I have the exact problem with the Control Panel (not responding) in my new Inspiron 14.   I followed the instruction listed in the post above and I no longer have the problem.  The only issue this fix created was minor - the Dell Wireless Utility short cut does not show up in my Control Panel items.  The Dell Wireless Utility can be accessed from the Programs Menu.

Thank you!  This post and the link solved my problem.  This was posted 6 months ago and the problem is still present with new Dell Inspiron 15R that shipped last week.  Ugh.  Come on Dell, fix this problem!
