Windows Explorer "snaps" back to different folder when I click on a file - XPS 420 (Vista)

This is been happening intermittently for about a month or so.

When I am searching for a file in Windows, sometimes if I double click on a file to open it Windows will throw me back to a different folder all together rather than opening the file.  I've noticed that a few times it snaps to the Recent Items folder (I am not sure if that is the ONLY folder it's thrown me to). 

Any ideas what could be causing this?
