Windows Xp SP3 IDT PC Audio Problem / Dimension 9200
Hi
I am receiving an error message
Cannot Access IDT PC Audio which seems to come from 'Shanghai Development Centre'
All my audio is dead.
Anyone had this problem ?
Is there a fix ?

WinZip is OK, I have it and use it to unzip files (or zip files), but I wouldn't be compressing (zip) the hard drive (if that is what you did) as it can cause a lot of problems and slower operation.
I have no idea what or where that 'Shanghai Development Center' came from. Can't answer that.
The SigmaTel driver on the Dell downloads is the only one. The entire Dimension line has been discontinued at least 5 years ago and there will never be any newer Dell drivers. I have a Dimension E510 (5150) from the same era.

The first problem is the wrong sound driver. You need the Dell supplied SigmaTel sound driver. The IDT sound driver is a later and incompatible version.
SigmaTel was purchased by IDT and renamed IDT, however any IDT drivers are for later hardware, in addition to you need the Dell supplied driver for proper operation.
The Dell SigmaTel driver for Windows XP can be accessed HERE
Without knowing what happened to cause this or if you did a reinstall, just installing the correct sound driver may not fix your problem.

Thanks for a great response Fireberd
I did not realiseSigmaTel had been sold to IDT and frankly worried when I saw 'Shanghai Development Center'
In the hopes you are in the giving vein here is my story
My Dimension 9200 audio files were working OK
I had run Winzip Untilities Suite to tidy up my hard drive
Once the program finished and I rebooted I received the error message 'Shanghai Development Center' cannot access sttray.exe and my audio files were dead (grayed out)
I panicked tried to fix failed and eventually resorted to System Restore
Now thanks to you I reckon what happened was the software had 'updated' my audio driver with the wrong version.
What do you think ?
Shall I just uninstall Winzip Utilities and forget about it ?
Is your download link to the latest driver a Sigma Tel version (2006) ?
Hope you are prepared to respond
I like (need) to learn :-)

Windows 8 has a Sigmatel driver. Go figure, the E310/Dimension 3100 works very well with WIndows 8 and presumably the 9200 will, too.
