XPS 8300 BIOS A06 or A07?

I've just had my XPS 8300 motherboard replaced (free of charge) and noticed that it has A07 but if I put my tag into the support section it lists A06.

I've found links and references to A07 on various web sites and (most) things seem to be working so should more people be using it?

Hi Gym Rat,

The A07 version of BIOS might come with the newer version of motherboards. It has not been updated in the Dell support site as it comes out in cycles so in the next cycle it should be updated.

The A07 version BIOS can be used once it is available on the Dell support site.

From what i had heard dell had stopped updating BIOS for the xps 8300, am i wrong making that assumption? i figured it was due to the multiple instances of video card incompatibilities that it was going through.

Hi majortom1981,

Unfortunately we don’t have any fixed timeframe for the release of A07 BIOS. Once the test is completed it will be updated on the Dell support site.

If it's still under test, should I have it or would I be better / safer with 06?

If your system works don't bother trying to change it.

If anyone knows how to obtain this A07 BIOS I would love to get my hands on it to see whether it offers Ivy Bridge support. I tested my XPS 8300 with an Intel Core i7-3770 Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz) and the system would not POST. I am running BIOS A06 and am hoping that A07 will allow this CPU to work. If someone out there has access to the A07 BIOS and is willing to share, please let me know.

I have the A07 bios from a motherboard replacement. I am curious to know whether it supports Ivy bridge too, but I don't have any Ivy CPU around to play with. How do I extract the bios to share?

Hi nomad88,

Dell XPS 8300 system has been tested only on sandy bridge processors. Same holds good for the latest BIOS.

If you have further questions do reply to the same post.

To extract your A07 BIOS follow the below:

* Download the A06 BIOS from Dell's website here - downloads.dell.com/.../TR-A06_QS.EXE

* Run the file (it will tell you your BIOS is newer and won't actually perform the update) but before you close, open a Run command and type %TEMP%

* Look for a folder containing the file afuwinx64.exe and other files (my folder was called "_971B.tmp")

* Copy this folder and all its files to a location such as C:\Dell_BIOS

* Close the A06 BIOS update screen

* Open a CMD window as Administrator and change directory to C:\Dell_BIOS

* If you are running 32bit Windows 7 or 8 run - afuwin.exe A07.ROM /O

* If you are running 64bit Windows 7 or 8 run - afuwinx64.exe A07.ROM /O

Note: The last command is a capital letter O.

Once complete, the file A07.ROM in C:\Dell_BIOS is your extracted A07 BIOS file.

I have a Dell XPS 8300 with Intel Core i5 2300. My current BIOS is A06 and my mother board model is 0Y2MRG. I recently bought a PowerColor HD7850 (AX7850 2GBD5-DH) and my system doesn't seem to recognize it. I've seen other posts saying the problem comes from the fact that you can’t disable the onboard video. In fact, my problem is almost identical to this users' issue: en.community.dell.com/.../20164135.aspx

My hope is with the release of A07, I’m able to use my new video card. I've been very happy with my Dell so far but not being able to use my new card is really disappointing. If anyone has any ideas or could upload A07 so I could give that a shot, I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks.

Any ETA on when the 07 Bios will be released?  I currently have an HD 7850 GPU with a 600W PSU, and I'm having the same issues like the other people.  My only assumption I can make right now is that it's a bios problem...
