dell vostro 430
just bought a second hand desktop hard drive failed having difficulty installing win 7 win 8 only Linux works I have tried ahci and sata but cant install win 7 and win 8 only see hard drive but cant reformat and install help really needed

It could be due to a hardware issue with the hard drive. I suggest you to run the hardware diagnostics by following the steps provided in the link below:
