formatting computer

Hi, I don't know if I am on the right forum, so apologies if I'm not.  Maybe someone can direct me to where I would get help with this.

I have formatted the hard disk drive before, with difficulty, because although the picture is centred fine in Windows XP, when in DOS and trying to follow the instructions, the picture is slewed to the left and therefore some of the text on that side is missing.  Is there anything I can do to correct this?

sara-ann,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

What picture are you talking about? Do you mean the format screens?

Hi Jesse,

I should have said I have a Dimension 8250, it is the screens you see when you use the reinstallation CD.  I have had two blue screens in the last few days and it seems my hard disk drive is "aging or failing" but I thought I would give it one last format.  It is 6 years old now.

Thanks,

Sara-Ann.

The Dell OS Reinstallation CD (or DVD) is just a normall Windows install disk, so yes, it would work just fine.  You would need to get all the required drivers for your system from either the Dell Drivers & Utilities (aka Resource) CD or the Dell support website.
