sfc scannow : Corrupted files (Vista); Source file also corrupted [RECOVERY files on HD?]

Inspiron 1520, Vista OS. Came with installed RECOVERY drive (assume that was clean original version of Vista).

Ongoing problem installing SP1 - Fails (Error Code 80070017); running all types of diagnostics, including System File Checker (SFC).

Report shows several corrupted files that cannot be repaired or reprojected because "source file in store is also corrupted".   [The 11 corrupted files: autochk.exe; contacts.js; gadget.xml; NlsLexicons081a.dll; devmgr.dll.mui; tcpmon.ini; fillitup.ani; WMIsvc.dll.mui; FireWallControlPanel.exe; usbort.sys; hccoin.dll;]

Not real anxious to do a complete wipe and reinstall due to number of user files, etc; plus, daughter goes back to College this weekend and I don't have a lot of time to fix her Inspiron.

Questions:

1. Can the RECOVERY drive be reinstalled so that clean source files can be referenced?

2. Any other options or ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Re: sfc scannow : Corrupted files (Vista); Source file also corrupted [RECOVERY files on HD?]

Deleted the cbs.log file (by renaming cbsold.log); Deleted the checksur.log file (by renaming checksurold.log).

Ran checksur.exe - Got new cbs.log and new checksur.log

No [SR] problems in cbs.log; some problems noted in checksur.log... not a big file... could copy here for analysis.
