newbie - how to setup Suse "addon" directory on a linux server?

Hello; just bought a Z50D thin client running on Suse. I would like to update and/or add additional base software, and even third-party software to the thin client. Apparently, this cannot be done directly from the thin client (connected to the internet directly), and that it has to be done via the server. Unfortunately, the Admin Guide is very poorly written, and it assumes a windows based server (referring to C:\directories). I would appreciate any help in setting up a similar system on a linux server (I'm running Fedora 17).
