ERROR: VNC: authentication failed: No configured security type is supported...

by 3.3 viewer.

I just downloaded PocketCloud onto an iPad 2 running IOS 4.3.1.

I am trying to make a VNC connection to a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.7. Both the iPad and MacBook are running on the same network. The iPad is using WiFi. I used the companion and auto-discovered the MacBook on the iPad. Whenever I try to make a connection, the error presented above is displayed. I have Screen Sharing enabled and a password set for VNC connections on the MacBook.

Can someone please shed some light as to what this error message means? Any fixes so I can connect?

Thank you in advance.

Eric

EDIT: The same error message appears if I try to enter the MacBook via the manual connection method. Both ports 5900 and 22 are open on the router. Finally, from a Windows PC running RealVNC I am able to make a VNC connection to this MacBook.

Solution: Switch encryption method on server

FYI, I was having similar issues with RealVNC servers. I could log in fine from other PCs using the VNC viewer but not from any iPad VNC viewers, including Mocha and Pocketcloud. But a simple switch in the security settings of my RealVNC server properties from having Encryption "Always on" to "Prefer on" solved the problem. I could immediately access my VNC servers from all iPad clients. Perhaps this will help solve your issues.

Hi balddaddy, Wondering if you got a chance to update the encryption settings of the vnc server?
Does that help?
Thanks!

VNC error

Did this problem ever get fixed? Its not secure or practical for me to go change all the VNC settings to make this work on our iPad. we have PocketCloud 2.1.117.

Receive same error message.

Mac OS 10.5.8
VNC Server E4.6.3 (r66752)
PocketCloud 2.2.134
PocketCloud Pro 2.2.231

Has this been fixed? Is this version of MacOS supported?

Can you see if this helps?

Go to Apple > System Preferences.
Under System, Click on "Account" (Snow Leopard) or "Users & Groups" (Lion)
Make a note of the username listed under "My Account" or "Current User".
Click on "Change Password".
Input your desired password and save.
Launch PocketCloud on your device.
Edit the "Connection Settings".
Select "Mac" as the "Operating System".
Select "Username" and enter the username from step 3.
Select "Password" and enter the password you set in step 5.
