Updating TightVNC procedure

Updating TightVNC procedure

When updating TightVNC, is it necessary to uninstall the old, reboot, and then install the new version? Or is it safe to just install the new version over the old one?

Windows 7/64 host.

you should be able to upgrade without uninstalling. If it is still an issue, it is the vnc software issue .

Thanks. No issue. Just wondering if there was a preferred protocol. I have some software that deletes custom settings if uninstalled first. And other software that needs to be uninstalled before a new version is installed.

Speed, Uninstall and install is more clean but, If the uninstall process is buggy then it could make it more complicated. so no real right answer.
Thank you!

J3RMAIN,

Sorry but PocketCloud has been discontinued and it's no longer supported.

To update TightVNC, you can follow these general steps:

Check for Updates: Start by checking if there is a newer version of TightVNC available. Visit the official TightVNC website or the platform from which you initially downloaded TightVNC and look for any updates or newer versions.

Download the Latest Version: If a newer version is available, download the installer for the latest version of TightVNC from the official website. Make sure to download the appropriate version for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux).

Backup Existing Settings: Before proceeding with the update, it's a good practice to back up your existing TightVNC settings and configurations, especially if you have custom settings or configurations that you want to retain. This step ensures that you can restore your settings if needed.

Uninstall the Current Version: Open the Control Panel (Windows) or go to the Applications folder (macOS) and locate TightVNC. Uninstall the current version of TightVNC by following the standard uninstallation process for your operating system.

Install the Updated Version: Run the downloaded installer for the latest version of TightVNC. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software on your computer. Make sure to review and customize any installation options if necessary.

Configure TightVNC: Once the installation is complete, launch TightVNC and configure it according to your preferences. You may need to set up access passwords, screen resolution settings, and other options based on your requirements.

Verify the Update: Test the updated TightVNC installation by connecting to your remote computer(s) or using it for your intended purposes. Ensure that all the features and functionalities are working as expected.
