XP.pro, RDP and VNC connections fail

XP.pro, RDP and VNC connections fail

I just discovered pocketcloud and am trying out the free version on my iPad1. I successfully installed the Windows companion on my Win7/64 PC and the iPad works fine with it.

I then installed the companion on my XP/pro laptop, followed the guide in the FAQ but have connectivity failures for both RDP and VNC. I verified the settings under System properties/remote and that the firewall is set to allow remote desktop. I rebooted the computer, but still get the connectivity fail.

Suggestions?

RE: XP.pro, RDP and VNC connections fail

Hi Speedlever,
Free version supports only one connection. If you would like to connect to multiple desktops,
Please upgrade to a paid version, Pocketcloud Pro.

I belatedly discovered that. But would that still prevent RDP from connecting? Where is the limitation imposed? On the host side or the client side?

Also, if I wanted to test my laptop's capability with Pocketcloud, would I have to uninstall it from my Win7 desktop before the installation would succeed on the XP.pro laptop?

Hi Speedlever,

For just testing rdp,
you dont need to uninstall any software.
You can create a manual connection.
Please make sure you device is on the same network.

I tried that unsuccessfully. Must have done something wrong.

Edit: assuming you mean create a manual connection from the iPad.

Hi Speedlever,

Correct. To simplify things, you can use Autodiscovery.
Autodiscovery makes connection establishment simpler.
All you need to do is either swype the 2 connection or delete the windows 7 connection.
Now you should be able to connect to xp pro.

RE: XP.pro, RDP and VNC connections fail

I'll try it later when I have a spare moment, but as I recall, I tried to set it up manually on my home WLAN using the IP address for the laptop, but no joy. If I delete the Win7 connection, will autodiscovery pick it back up automagically? I would have thought that I could successfully RDP to port 3389 on the XP/pro laptop but that your servers would prevent my iPad from making more than one connection until/unless I upgrade to the paid version.

I need to see if Pocketcloud will survive a reboot on a PC that requires a log-in. Other projects have taken priority over this. If so, I'll probably buy it so I can have the option to maintain multiple remote hosts via my iPad. That job is typically done from my laptop or PC using logmein free. But LMI won't work on the iPad unless I spring for the $30 ignition version.. which is too pricey for me for just a stand-by option.

RE: XP.pro, RDP and VNC connections fail

Have had other computer issues and haven't had a chance to do further tests. I did install Windows Companion on an XP.home system on another network. It shows up in my iPad, but won't connect since I still have my PC loaded. I still don't understand why my laptop running XP.pro on my network won't connect and show up like the XP.home system on another network does.
