Dell Wyse 7020 Thin Client, getting error code 233 when reimaging

I admit I am not all knowledgeable on Thin Clients. I purchased this ThinClient from E-bay for around $150.00 but when I start, it's showing the message,

"Invalid or damaged Bootable partition".

I thought no worries, I will just download the iso and install the thin OS.

I downloaded ThinLinux, used the USB Imaging Tool 3.1, and created a boot-able USB.

Disabled Secure Boot & cleared the TPM, restarted the ThinClient but when I start trying to puch the USB image with ThinLinux (1.0.7_Z50Q_D50Q_merlin), I am seeing the following message:

Error while validating security key. (error code:233).
Please review the following reason may be Error while validating security key. (error code:233).
-Eeprom validation
- Mismatch between Security key of the device and security key present in the XML file of the image package.
- Check if you are trying to deploy correct image for the intended platform, Re-register the correct image package.

I think this Thin-Client either came with Windows 7 as this is what I see when I am trying to push the image:

Model # Zx0Q
Media Size: 16GB
System: Windows 7 32-Bit

Merlin version 3.8.3

Any help or pointer will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Sal

So I was not able to find "teradici PCoIP optimized" anywhere on my ThinClient and pre-upgrade add-on (unified_addon-1.0.0-00.06.x86_64.rpm) did not help either (found from another post).

This is how I resolved the issue. In the flash drive, there was a log file under "A:\1.0.7_Z50Q_D50Q_merlin\1.0.7_Z50Q_D50Q_merlin\1.0.7_Z50Q_D50Q_merlin\Merlin_DDMMYYYY_224343.log".

It stated issue with the Security key:

[ImagingCommands.c][16890 ][isKeyConversionValid ] :device security key = 01010B2C
[Utils.c ][86 ][convertSecurityKey ] :Convert security key: str: FFFFFFFF: 4294967295
[Utils.c ][86 ][convertSecurityKey ] :Convert security key: str: 0101082C: 16844844
[Utils.c ][86 ][convertSecurityKey ] :Convert security key: str: FFFFFFFF: 4294967295
[ImagingCommands.c][9383 ][downloadImageFromServer ] :key conversion failed
[ImagingCommands.c][9384 ][downloadImageFromServer ] :security key doesn't match with any support keys: dev: 01010B2C: number: 16845612
[WdmCommand.c ][1286 ][processCommandScriptFromWdm] :Error executing command 'downloadImageFromServer'

I looked up the xml file under "A:\1.0.7_Z50Q_D50Q_merlin\1.0.7_Z50Q_D50Q_merlin\1.0.7_Z50Q_D50Q_merlin\commandsXml.xml"

and changed the Security key from 0101082C to 01010B2C (someone must have read "B" as "8"), thanks Dell for wasting my hours and hours of time to address this issue.

Hey Sal, I stumbled across the same issue. Luckily I found a post with the solution:

Please check your Thin Client if you can find a sticker or label on it with "teradici PCoIP optimized". If so you need to use a ThinOS that is PCoIP optimized, you can filter with "ThinOS PCoIP" on the dell support website and download the according Merlin-Firmware.

If you can't find a sticker or label with "PCoIP" you need to use the normal Firmware-Image "ThinOS".

However it can happen that the update will freeze at the very end of the update and you can't press the OK button at the bottom right corner of the screen. In that case you just need to restart the device. Powering of an on again is also a solution.

Hopefully this will help you

Thank you Tac0. I looked more than few time and even on the pull out tag which has the service tag, no where can I find the "teradici PCoIP optimized" but I am going to try with it anyway and update here as ThinOS didn't work in my case.
