Has anyone found a solution for getting WES7 (on a Z90D7) to stop creating multiple printer objects every time a unique device is attached? I thought this was an old issue from XP/Vista days that was long resolved, but apparently not.
A client image can have the necessary drivers installed, and the USB printer functioning properly. However, if that specific printer is ever replaced with one of the exact same model, Windows instead creates a new printer object, without the settings previously saved. This renders it impossible to create a golden image that can be deployed to many clients.
Thanks for any suggestions.
In case others stumble across this issue, the answer is out there - google "IgnoreHWSerNum"
A regkey must get created BEFORE the printer driver is installed, and for WES7 must be Binary (not DWORD).
Except this still doesn't resolve the central issue: there appears to be no way to create an image for use across many clients and many different USB devices. If the device serial number is ignored as above, WES7 still wants to install a new printer if it's ever plugged into a different USB port.
