XPS 410/Dimension 9200, max upgrades

hello, i have an old dell dimension 9200 (xps410) desktop and would like to upgrade it to the max but still not using to much money (most efficient upgrade), it is running on intel core 2 quad q6600 2.4ghz, and 3g ram, radeon hd 3600 with around 1.7gb, and a stock dell dimension 9200 (xps 410)mobo 0wg855, and 375 max watt power supply.

what i know so far is that i could upgrade to 8gb ram and that CPU's are expensive.

so what do you think i should do instead of buying a whole new computer

I wouldn't do much to this old legacy model.  XP and Vista is all Dell officially supported (drivers).  It may run more and may even run Win 10 to some degree but its iffy.

I owned and used a 9200 for several years and posted about it on these forums too.

Max CPU is QX6800. Max ram is 8Gb, DDR2. PSU is upgradeable then you could put any nvidia graphics card in it apart from the latest (this year's) models, or if sticking with Radeon, then one that's a few years older.

I think people will tell you it's not worth the money because you can get a better second hand PC for less money.

It ran Windows 10 fine for me, absolutely no issues at all (used it on the 9200 for over a year).

Might depend if you are using all stock / original parts though, for example I was using a wireless USB dongle and sound card that had Windows 10 drivers. Some of the components the 9200 shipped with probably don't have dedicated Windows 10 drivers.

what do you mean expensive CPU,  looking in wiki ECU and day 1 prices there from Intel LOL that is funny. I have boxes full of CPU here CORE2 duo and quad that were $3 each.  is $5 expensive

you said max it out and not cost TOO much,  that is not possible, ever. (ever price maxed out GPU, $1000)_?

what is TOO much? IDK, !

A PC is tool that only need to do what you want it to do,  not stated, not one thing stated that is slow or apps failing.

I have a quad here that runs w10 64bit do you run that?

My PCs all have SDD, this is upgrade path #1 , always run a SSD< never HDD as boot, 2019 and beyond is nuts. RUST Spinners for boot are HISTORY now. for get them.

A 128GB SDD is only $20 (same  as pack of CIG's in NYC)   this  is first. then RAM then GPU cards if doing heavy 3D graphics of ANY KIND.

when posting , name the purse first, (what is the upgrade budget) $10 , $100  or what, ?

x300s SSD is  nice drive. used. hint hint.

the word cheap has no meaning, not really only $$$$ mater, only that, and not told.

why would you not, buy a used PC far better for same purse.

A DELL 3020 MT (full mini tower only) is vastly better PC, and is only $50 used, no HDD sold on fleabay.

endless found, the pop in a SSD and  your pain is over for $70..

why put cash in any 12 year old PC, get a real CORE PC,  is best never CORE 2.

CORE i3/i5 or i7 , do that. then upgraded if needed, but I bet no need.

best bang for the buck is use newer PCs, not new, NEWER.

You are in same boat as this user. Yours is only a bit newer .... circa 2007 .

Yes, I think I still have some XPS-410 machines in storage (readying for re-cycling). You can have them if you want to pay shipping and handling. Pretty sure they all have the Intel Q6600 QUAD-core, nice video-cards (for their time) and likely upgraded Corsair power-supplies.

Most efficient upgrade is to buy a video card that can be used later. Money spent on DDR2 ram is wasted.

That means GT1030 low profile card.

These models work with up to GT1080TI

This guy upgraded XPS400 with 1080TI and external power supply.
