XPS 8300, no audio from headphones or speakers
I've tried a bunch of things to try and fix my audio. How can I tell if it's the chip on the motherboard? I have an older system and I've heard about windows 10 upgrade issues. Like I said, I tried two sets of speakers. I tried a set of plantronics headphones that I know work. I don't know if the speakers work. I've tried upgrading drivers quite a bit and switching between drivers available on my computer. Not sure what to try next. if the chip on the motherboard is fried, how would I know?

1. Windows-10 64bit works fine on my XPS-8300 .
2. Because you trouble-shoot to that (you have a ways to go) and then, after your replace motherboard (and re-load proper driver) it will work again.
FYI, a USB-Sound-Card is very cheap. Might get you by until you can get a newer machine.

Yea. I was thinking of getting a sound card of some type. There is one thing I'm curious about though. The plantronics headphones I tried out were from work and they are very expensive. They plug into the usb port on my computer not the audio jacks in the back of the computer. Does this make any difference?. I use them at work on my work laptop so I know they work.

Same thing ... a USB "sound card" .
Only difference is there are some headphones hard-wired to it.
