XPS 8500, Ultimate upgrade (or a great loss)
First, sorry about my english.
I know that I'm talking about an old PC (mine, specifically) from 2013, but it still something to give. My specs:
Motherboard: BR-0NW73C-10819-32D-001T-A00
Processor: i5-3350P
RAM: 8GB DDR3 SDRAM AT 1600MHZ-2x4GB
Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 1GB GDDR 5
After some some research, I know that I can upgrade:
- RAM to 4x8GB
-Graphic card to GT 1030 or GTX 1050 Ti, or even GTX 1060
But i'm really curious to know the following: can I upgrade my processor to i7-3770?
I know, my idea/question can be really dumb, but you need to know that here (Brazil) PC parts are really expensive and I (unfortunately) don't have much money to spend.
I did a lot of research on this subject and ended up finding a website pointing out possibilities (I really wish I had found it before): userbenchmark.com/System/Dell-XPS-8500--/1718

The XPS 8500 did originally come with the i7-3770 as one of the options so yes you can upgrade to it, but it may require a new heatsink/fan since the Thermal Design Power (TDP) of the i5 is 69 watts and the i7 is 77 watts.
Since you don't have a lot to spend, the upgrade(s) you choose depends upon what you use the computer for and realize that some upgrades, like memory and CPU, will not likely be compatible with a new computer. Also, I would advise against spending a lot of money on a 7 year old computer.

"I would get an Inspiron 3070 for $400 on sale" Do you mean OptiPlex 3070? It would help the OP if you wrote or linked to what the specs are for $400. Also note that the OP said he was in Brazil where PC parts are expensive.

you answered your own question, so what is the question OP.
in fact the first fact on that page, i7 told you YES< it works. 6000 users, clear as day all that stuff there works.
BIOS upgraded (for sure on any major, RAM or CPU changes) use F12 method, BIOS update.

OP get a XPS 8900 z170 used, and heap love onto that, a far better PC. use STD ATX PSU too.
and most folks will never see any gain with a upgraded CPU, but then you never told one app you runs that does
go, CPU bottlenecked, so... who knows.?
if using any 8500 and w10 be sure RST it turned of fin BIOS, set RAID to OFF, and AHCI to on.
H77 has zero intel support for RST, (and all down the line , dell then MS, zero support, for this RAID turned on)
turn that off, and MS will load a base H77 sata driver. and run. (no dead boots) Fresh load W10 is best.
the 8900 with z170 chip set has no such limit. (h110 up are the best PCs to own, IMO) $300 used (par)

things to consider (besides gaming, endless) this is about FUTURE.
1: will intel support you for the next major W10 release. hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
2: will dell support you, not if intel fails, Like they did on chipsets below H110, ! opps RST dead. (RAID users)
3: SATA (iii) 6Gb/s best for the fastest SSD 2.5" made. 536MB/s?(r)
4: usb 3 or 3.1? at least 2 ports, a must. for sure using fast external HDD or SSD.
5: a REAL ATX PSU used inside, real standard PSU sold in 100millions stores world wide, no begging for dell odd duck PSU not sold now. ever again.
6: get in the M.2 SSD? they are very fast. NVme.
6: in same vein, the missing GPU PCIe-12vdc AUX cables that run powerful GPU cards.
buy a PC with H110 or higher, buy Z170 up, IMO, !
non need to broke, a 8900 is a fine PC. and very affordable used, and has future...

upgrading GPU to at least GTX 1050 TI and upgrading OS to windows 10 and adding SSD will make it seem like a new machine.

It depends on the resolution you play at if you are thinking of upgrade gpu for gaming.
at 1080p, gtx 1060 is good match for your i7-3770. I use gpu check.
