XPS 8500, video card upgrade questions

Short answer: any GeForce GTX 1050 should work in your PC and meet your requirements.

Longer answer: it seems there's a bit of confusion over which newer cards work with the older XPSs, the only way to be 100% sure is to find evidence of someone having used a particular card in a particular model. But I'm seeing more and more evidence that the GeForce GTX 10 series work in all the XPSs going back to at least the XPS 8000 (I have a GeForce GTX 1060 in my XPS 8000).

Dell XPS 8500 for my 11-year old to use as an entry level game machine. I found this thread after I ran into problems upgrading the machine to Win 10 when I was told the current video card would not support Win10.

Although I've built a few machines in my day a long time ago, I'm new to all the different GPUs and what machines/CPU will support them. I've looked on our local craigslist and found a GeForce 560 ti 1GB GPU for $50. Would this card work in the above machine and give decent performance? For $50 I'm willing to throw the card in the machine and give it a try. Are there issues I should be aware of or settings I will need to modify? 

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1. Most likely.

2. It is only worth $50 is functioning 100%. I don't buy used video cards any more. You can get a brand new Zotac Nvidia GTX-1030 for cheap (with a warranty). 

3. Usually new (compatible, desktop version) drivers from nvidia.com ,

Good move by following Tesla's advice.

The GTX 560 1GB GPU was one of the video cards that did not work in the XPS 8500 due to video bios errors.  The -ti version would have been risky to buy for that reason.

The 460 watt PSU in the XPS 8500 can handle up to a GTX 1060 / RTX 2060.

Hello, I would like to jump in on the OP, I have XPS 8500, and want to use a dell U4919DW monitor 5120x1440.

I saw a recommendation that the GeForce GTX 1050 would support that monitor, can anyone confirm, Thanks!

(would i need 2gb or 4gb?, i don't use for gaming just office work)
