XPS - 850W PSU for Special Edition No Longer Available?
I’m looking to replace an older Dell XPS, purchased an XPS 8930 Special Edition in July 2019 it works great.
Went to purchase another similar system (two of us working from home now) and discovered the 850 Watt Power Supply [80 Plus Gold Efficiency] isn’t available. I know it was available for the newer 8940 systems up until at least April 2020
Does anyone know if this is a temporary Supply Chain issue or just the new standard for Dell XPS’s.
Chatted with the Dell Reps but they were surprised the 850 W was ever available for the XPS systems.

Hi Dell63i,
Thank you.
I misread my SS, it was an XPS 8930 I was looking at in April.
So, would you happen to know if the 850 W PSU is available for any of the 8930 XPS models?
It looks like no but thought I ask anyways,

Where are you seeing the XPS 8930 available at all on the Dell web site?

XPS 8940 is maxed out at 500 watt Dell proprietary PSU.

@astec91
The only XPS 8930 computers that I can find are at the Dell Outlet refurbished/scratch & dent and I don't see any with 850 watt PSU.

it was never available for 8940 because those use 500w max proprietary power supply.
If you want something like what you have now get an aurora not a G5 or 8940.

There are 3rd party units that work fine.
110-BQ-0850-V1 from evga for example
https://www.newegg.com/evga-110-bq-0850-v1-850w/p/N82E16817438086
Unless for some reason you must have 850W the EVGA 700BR is also fine.

FWIW, My XPS 8930 SE (purchased 11-2019) has a 850W PSU that's identified on the Support site's config screen for this Service Tag as:
Part # Description
9V45V ASSY, CHAS, L6, 850W, GOLD, SE, 8930
That's not one of the PSU Part #s @DELL-Chris M listed for the XPS 8930.

@DELL-Chris M,
You wrote:-

I find that list interesting because my XPS 8930 appears to have been shipped with "J98H5 46W Delta" - obviously I haven't got a clue as to the differences between PK61K & J98H5!

This is all interesting to me. The SPMD (spare parts master database) shows this:
9V45V not a Dell 5 digit part number according to the SPMD. It is a Dell sales mod number. It relates to Dell sales mod number TWGPV. Both relate to a sales SKU 321-BEUV. It does not show the same data like the part number below.
J98H5 460W Delta
Systems = Inspiron 5675/5680, Aurora R5/R6, XPS 8910/8920

@DELL-Chris M
As a matter of interest, what are the specific differences between "PK61K 460W Delta" and "J98H5 460W Delta"??
