XPS 8920, BIOS 1.0.14, Front I/O cable failure message

I upgraded the BIOS of my XPS 8920 from version 1.0.11 to version 1.0.14 last night (intermediate versions weren't offered in my country or were removed from Dell's website before I noticed them). After the upgrade, I started receiving the "Alert! Front I/O cable failure" message (code 2000-0716) on boot. I checked the cables, reseated all of them and tested the front panel devices, which are all working fine. The power LED is not blinking neither changed color. I run the diagnostics and no errors were found, which makes me suspect a bug in this BIOS version. Is anyone else having this same problem after this update?

@Skeets8920I just saw Dell released the 1.0.15 update.

Did you installed that one and get this problem?

Here the link

I will wait till update again. I will not going to do that in a friday night.

Me too!

Full screen "Power button cable failure" comes up immediatly after power-on.

1. Removed power button cable and short-circuited pins 6 and 8 motmentaly, resulted in the same error.  There is no power button cable, though.

2. Have run the HW diagnostic in BIOS setup screenm which found no errors.

3. Tried to go back to 1.0.12 in vain because 1.0.14 is protected.

Need Dell's help to resolve, too.

Tak

The same problem here. Right after BIOS update to 1.0.14. DELL should come up with another BIOS update to solve this issue.

Same Thing happened to me. Went from 1.0.12 to 1.0.14 getting per-boot error." power button cable failure" code 2000-0716.

It must be the new bios for so many to get the error.

I purchased an 8920 in October 2017. The very first time I switched it on I got something like a "cable unplugged" message. I forgot all about it  and had no further error messages until yesterday.

I'm having another problem with the PC "losing" an external SSD. Yesterday I updated the BIOS.....and you guessed it "front i/o cable failure" error code 2000-0716.

The error was relayed to Dell via the Support Assist software. They contacted me and I have emailed them the details of the problems.

A hardware test shows no faults.

I'll report back when Dell have contacted me again.

Cheers

For the past few Bios release for XPS 8920,  at first they make it available then they pull it down from their web site.  I previously having issue with bios version 1.0.12 and I noticed they did take it down from their web site.   Now this version 1.0.14 issue?     What happened to Dell quality assurance?  Keeping posting buggy firmare without testing it to the customers causing them issue.

I'm having bios version 1.0.12  I have an intermittent issue where I can not boot into F2 Bios and F12 then at then finally I can not boot up into Windows.   I send it for warranty repair,  they reinstalled Windows 10 and sent it back and they forgot to install the Intell Optane memory driver and also the USB 3.1 driver.  Once the PC back from their repair depot,  boot up got warning message about Intel Rapid Storage Technology and it also would not recognize my USB external hard drive. Still got the issue where it won't boot into F2/F12.  (until someone on this board show me a work around, not sure how long that work around will last) .  I got USB driver installed trying to figure out how to install Optane Memory driver, will I have to do another reinstallation of Windows 10.

Within BIOS version 1.0.14 I see the description it is suppose to fix  -

Updated Intel ME Firmware to address security advisory INTEL-SA-00086 (CVE-2017-5705 & CVE-2017-5708)
- Updated to the latest CPU microcode to address CVE-2017-5715 and associated Intel Reboot issue.

Not sure what will all that resolved but I'm glad I have not update my Bios to version 1.0.14 once I read this thread.

I lost my confident with Dell PC and their supports.

I will be interested in what they come up with.  Hopefully they will respond quickly.  I have same error message. Came right when the new bios was booting.  Had a "continue" icon to click and it just sent me to regular boot up process, no problem.   Thanks.
