XPS 8920, RTX 2070, compatible?

I have had a Dell XPS 8920 for a couple of years. It came with a GTX 1050 ti which has worked well, but I want to upgrade to play some games such as Witcher 3 at high settings and to prepare for Cyberpunk. I already have a Seasonic Focus + 850w Platinum which should be enough to power any GPU. I want to upgrade to put an EVGA RTX 2070 XC in this machine, but I want to make sure that it will be compatible with the motherboard. Will it work, or should I upgrade the mobo first?

It will work with the present motherboard as per the following post.

Whether or not it works with the motherboard, it doesn't physically fit into the case. I have a Dell XPS 8920 and I bought a GeForce RTX 2070 from MSI, card dimensions are 295 x 140 x 56 mm. Dell doesn't share their max physical dimensions for a PCIe card, but it's less than that becuase the card sure doesn't fit.
