XPS 8930, Realtek audio driver 2021, slow boot
Greetings,
Just wanting to share a funny experience which increased my windows boot time by 400% ( yes 4 times slower).
Thanks to the use of Bootracer I am able to keep an eye on my PC boot times in quite detail like Bios, Windows , User logon and startup programs.
The Windows boot time used to be around 20 s , but increased suddenly to 85 and sometimes 90 s.
Looking at what happened just before the boot time increase I found the installation suggested by Dell Support Assist, of a new Realtec High Definition Audio driver (Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver_PP3Y7_WIN_6.0.9205.1_A21.EXE)
Rolling back to the 2020 Microsoft version solved the boot increase time issue. So newer is not always better and when it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Unbelievable !

@AnarethoS -There's no direct link to Realtek 9107.1 right now. We're waiting to see if Dell re-posts a direct for this driver for the XPS 8930. The best anyone can probably do right now is install v8248, using the Dell link I posted above, if they don't have the .exe already downloaded on their PC and can't revert the driver using Device Manager.
You can do what you want, but I would never accept a file from some stranger via OneDrive, etc. There's no way to know what's being downloaded and installed. Can we say "malware", boys and girls?

I have been on the v8248 driver linked above for a couple of days now. It works fine and solved the slow boot problem.

Thanks.
I am unsure if I what to revert back to an old driver or wait for a fix for the new one. My computer is on 24/7. I reboot it only for Windows Updates so it is not a big problem.
As for the file from someone else, the installer is digitally signed so it can always be validated.

I used the Realtek driver v8248 on the XPS 8930 without any issues before they updated it to v9107.1. Si it seems only this last update is causing problems.
FWIW, there are some threads about other PC models having issues with their latest specific Realtek driver update too. Hopefully, that means Realtek will fix the oopsy sooner than later, since it affects multiple PC models...

Ok, I fixed the problem by rolling back to 8248 and then upgrading to 9107.
I don't have the installer package for 9107 but my father who has the same computer as me had a backup of the files in c:\windows\system32\driverstore\ folder so I copied that folder and used the device manager to update.
Seems to work for now.
Waiting for a fix to 9205 now ...

here they are:
6.0.9107.1 A19
6.0.9107.1 A20

@erpster05 - Neither of the two Realtek driver links you posted is listed as being compatible with the XPS 8930, even though they may have the same version number as the driver that's compatible with the XPS 8930.
Those two are compatible with various Dell laptop PCs. And they may -or not- include Waves MaxxAudio Pro which is included as part of the Realtek audio driver for the XPS 8930. Anyone who installs either of them does so at their own risk.
The compatible Realtek driver for the XPS 8930 with that version number is:
Realtek-Audio-Driver_F15XW_WIN_6.0.9107.1_A08.EXE and includes Waves.
The compatible version for the XPS 8930 prior to 9107.1 was:
Realtek-Audio-Driver_T55WP_WIN_6.0.1.8248_A07 and includes Waves.

Although it is true, I was still able to install the A20 package.
I extracted it.
Waves Maxx Audio Pro installer is part of the package.
I was able to install it without anyproblem on the XPS 8930.
Still, I would prefer the real one.
@Dell : Please, give us a official link!

Greetings,
If you don't care about Waves bloatware like me, the generic microsoft hd audio driver is fine for two speaker audio. You may have to clean-up windows driverstore from realtek audio driver(s) with a tool like windows driverstore explorer to avoid it to be re-installed.

I'm having the same problem with my XPS 8930 on Windows 10. My total boot time until the login prompt appears went from about 30 seconds to 90 seconds. In Windows Update, View Update History shows Realtek driver 6.0.9205.1 was installed today. Oddly, Device Manager for Realtek Audio shows Microsoft driver version 10.0.19041.1. I'm not sure where to find 6.0.9205.1 in Device Manager.
I wanted to roll back the audio driver, but that option is grayed out. If I click Update Driver I'm offered Models called Audio Endpoint and Generic Software Device. I'm not sure how to get to the MS HD Audio Device Driver. I don't see any choice for Realtek or MS.
Maybe someone can provide some additional details so I can get my PC working normally again.
I get concerned every time I see Windows installing drivers. At least three times in less than two years this has messed up my PC. When I install drivers directly from Dell, I've learned to install one at a time, rebooting between each installation. This way I can tell which one caused a problem. Today Windows installed a BT driver, network driver and audio driver, which made it harder to figure out which one was the problem. Luckily there was already a topic about it on this forum.
Edit: My mistake. I was looking in the wrong place for Realtek Audio in Device Manager. I was looking under Audio Inputs & Outputs, but apparently the correct one is under Sound, Video & Game Controllers. I have rolled back the driver now and will see what happens.

Edit 2: I actually rolled back the Realtek driver to the previous version then "updated" to the MS HD audio driver. The problem is solved for now. Total boot time is back to 30 seconds and the sound still seems to play (I just have 2-channel audio), so I guess I'll stick with the MS HD audio driver for now. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread, especially @Brocktoon623.

That's what I've been doing so far, staying on the MS HD audio driver. Still hoping Dell will eventually address this issue though or at least post an official link to the last driver set

@GaryK30 - You could have just stayed with the previous Realtek driver after the roll-back...

@Brocktoon623 The MS HD audio driver isn't the previous Dell audio for the XPS 8930. The previous one was Realtek 6.0.9107.1 and the one before that was 6.0.1.8248.
