XPS 8930, Waves MaxxAudio Pro, playback settings

Hi Guys,

Got the new PC in May, getting round to try and sort out a few niggles.

When I go to the Waves MaxxAudio Pro control panel, Select playback option, I can't switch it on to alter any of the setting.wave.jpg

I've tried reloading the driver, made no difference.

Any ideas ?

Re: XPS 8930 - WAVES MAXX AUDIO PRO

You might need to have more equipment like special speakers or audio devices to use the features. It is not part of Windows 10. Check the info at the site. https://maxx.com/about/

Re: XPS 8930 - WAVES MAXX AUDIO PRO

I can turn Waves on/off on my XPS 8930 running Win 10 1909. Did you recently update to Win 10 v2004?

Don't know if it matters, but are you logged into an account with Administrator privileges?

What audio output: speakers integrated into monitor, USB or BT, or speakers connected directly to audio output on rear of PC?

Click Start>Run>services.msc

When services.msc opens make sure all these services are set to Automatic Start and have actually started:

  • Realtek Audio
  • Waves Audio
  • Windows Audio
  • Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

Reboot and test if you make changes to any of those services, but don't change anything else in services.msc.

EDIT: FWIW, I'm using desktop PC speakers connected directly to the audio output jack on rear of my XPS 8930

Hi Ron,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Re: XPS 8930 - WAVES MAXX AUDIO PRO

You lost me somewhere... In your response to Mary G you highlighted S2419H in the image you posted. Now you just said it's an S2719H. So which is it?

Do you actually hear sound from the monitor's speakers, even if you can't turn MaxxAudio on?  And is it sound over HDMI?

A Maxx Audio setting is shown on the S2419H monitor's OSD screen in the setup guide and that has to be turned on, but you'll have to check if that same setting is available, if you really have an S2719H.

What video source are you using, Intel UHD Graphics, Nvidia or AMD? Depending on which video source you're using, does it have a corresponding audio service  in services.msc that needs to set to Automatic?

Re: XPS 8930 - WAVES MAXX AUDIO PRO

Hi Ron,

Thanks for sharing your time 🙂

Sorry it was a typo, I can confirm that I have a 27 inch monitor, but it looks like the manual is common for the 24 and 27 inch monitors.

Yes, the speakers are working, I just can't adjust the tone from the Control panel.

Yes, I'm using a HTMI cable from the monitor to the video/sound card  (NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2060 6GB GDDR6)

Yes, the OSD moitor setting shows the Maxx Audio setting is ON

Thanks again

Re: XPS 8930 - WAVES MAXX AUDIO PRO

What's set in Win 10 as the Sound Output Device?

You said "tried reloading the driver, made no difference." Which driver did you reload? Did you actually uninstall the device(s) in Device Manager, reboot, open Device Manager, and "scan for new hardware"?

Always manually set a System Restore point before uninstalling anything in Device Manager.

Have you read this?

And I did see this about MaxxAudio and HDMI, but I don't know if it applies to your situation...

Re: XPS 8930 - WAVES MAXX AUDIO PRO

Is this sound over HDMI and what video card do you have?

Did you open your monitor's On Screen Display (OSD) and make sure Maxx Audio is turned on there?

Re: XPS 8930 - WAVES MAXX AUDIO PRO

You have to have 5.1 speaker set attached to the back ports to use that.
