XPS 8930, another BIOS update
What exactly does this do? There was just one released in October. If I choose detect drivers it does not show up. But if I manually check with "Show Updates for my Service Tag Only" is turned on it shows.
Dell XPS 8930 System BIOS
Version
1.1.19, 1.1.19
Before I had issues with Windows Update showing Dell Firmware "01.1.19, 1.1.19" Notice the one on Windows Update has a 0 I wonder if they fixed this? I turned off Firmware Capsule Updates, so I do not know. But it would be interesting to know.

Re: What exactly does this do?
- Firmware updates to address the Intel Security Advisory INTEL-SA-00562 (CVE-2021-0157).
- Fixed the issue where the BIOS cannot be updated using executable file on systems with Windows 11 operating system.

Is there any way to get an answer on whether or not Windows Update is going to keep updating the BIOS on Dell desktops? Can someone at Dell answer this? Or are we going to have to go through this several times a year?
Maybe they are hoping for several thousand bricked motherboards.

I don't think Microsoft is updating the BIOS on Dell desktops through Windows Update on their own, Dell must approve this because how would Microsoft get the firmware. I don't know why the XPS 8930 seems to be the most favorite target for these updates.

Be sure to check your BIOS settings -again- after updating to v1.1.19.
On my XPS 8930, the options for automatic BIOS recovery and integrity check were disabled after this latest update, even though I had enabled them in v1.1.18.
I wish these BIOS updates would stop changing user configured settings. If the user changed a setting from its default, the update should not reset them, unless, of course, the change is essential for proper installation of the update and/or is required for proper function of the update...

This is a general response to everyone!!
Are we talking about a BIOS Update showing on the Dell Web-Site or showing up on the Windows-Update?
The original Post mentions that he can only see it when he limits his Search using his specific System Tag - wouldn't this suggest that he is using the Dell Web-Site?
Yet a lot of the comments seem to be discussing Widows-Updates!
Have to be honest & say that I'm confused!!!
PS:- I DON'T see this under Windows-Update!

@John-Jay The original post mentions both the Dell website and Windows Update. The Windows Update version adds a zero in front of the version number. The issue is that Windows Update is updating the BIOS in the XPS 8930. It has happened in version 1.1.18 and now appears to happen with version 1.1.19 also. For some users, it also appears that if they update the BIOS via a Dell website download, Windows Update will update it again. The Windows update can be seen in the 'View pdate history'.

This is from the Dell Website using my service tag only. And I accepted the wrong reply as Solution.

I didn't have to use my Service Tag to see BIOS v1.1.19 listed on the XPS 8930 Support page.
It typically takes a while after Dell posts an update on its support site before that update gets offered (pushed) by Windows Update. So it may be end of this month or later before it's available via WU.
IMO, that seems to make some sense. If a BIOS update downloaded directly from Dell 's support site fails and bricks a few motherboards, they would still have time to react before WU forces a defective BIOS update on thousands of unsuspecting XPS 8930 users...
And I forget to mention that BIOS 1.1.19 enables Capsule Updates even if the user disabled it in whatever version was already running. Not that disabling Capsule Updates seems to do anything to stop WU from pushing the same update...

I don't want Windows Update messing with the BIOS at all! There is too much chance for a disaster, and it is only a matter of time before something goes wrong. Why can't someone get in touch with Dell and get some kind of answer on this?

@CTG_8273 - I updated my XPS 8930 manually to BIOS v1.1.20 earlier this week. Smooth update via the F12 menu flash update menu with a 2-GB USB stick. No problems with PC afterwards. I think it may even boot a teeny bit faster, 10.1 sec today with v1.1.20 vs ~12-13 sec with v1.1.19.
I'm still using Win 10 21H2, with no intentions of updating to Win 11...

FYI - And now WU is offering BIOS 0.1.1.20 as an "optional" update for the XPS 8930, which my PC already has installed.
WU better not force install 0.1.1.20 like they did 0.1.1.18, which was also listed as optional, until it got force installed, even though I already had that version running.

And another BIOS update for XPS 8930, to v1.1.21 to fix additional security vulnerabilities.
Ran the update using the F12 boot menu flash update option and a USB stick with the update .exe file on it. The update installed without any issues and is working OK.
As usual, it reset some of my BIOS settings changes back to their default values. It re-enabled UEFI Capsule Updates, boot from LAN, etc. I had to make those same changes again.
Be sure to check all your settings after this update too...

AND ... it looks like 1.1.22 was just released. Pretty much seems like there are now at least monthly BIOS releases. The last one I applied was 1.1.18 and that was forced by WU. I still have 0.1.1.20 sitting in my optional WU queue. Are the other Dell XPS systems seeing as many BIOS updates?
